Questions hosts ask

How much sparkling wine do I need for a midnight toast?

A 750 ml bottle pours about six 4 oz flutes, or eight smaller toast pours. For a toast only, one bottle per six to eight guests is enough; if fizz is the main drink all night, plan more.

How much food for a New Year's Eve party?

If guests have eaten dinner, plan four to six bites per guest for each of the first two hours and hold a second wave for around eleven. If they are coming straight from work, add a board at about 85 g (3 oz) per guest per type and a warm, filling bite.

How many drinks per guest for a long party?

A common rule is two drinks in the first hour and one an hour after. For 9 pm to 1 am that is up to five a head, but many guests drink less. Spread the plan across fizz, a cocktail, beer and wine, and keep good non-alcoholic options and water in view.

How do I keep a New Year's party going until midnight?

Pace it. Start with cold bites and relaxed music, bring out warm food and turn up the music around ten, and plan an activity like a quiz or dance block in the last hour.
